Mystery of Feng Shui

Have you ever wanted to learn more about Feng Shui? Or have you never heard of the word before reading it today? Well, no matter which category you fall under, you will be able to learn more than what you previously knew after reading this article. Many people have heard about it and know that it has something to do with rearranging your surroundings, but they don't know the reasoning behind it. Hopefully this article will be able to clear things up for you.

Feng Shui is defined as simply "the art of positioning." I know the definition sounds lacking, but that is the overall idea. Now the next question "What are we positioning?" That's where things get interesting. What you are positioning in this art is your body and soul with the most suitable spiritual vibration matching your environment. In other words, you are rearranging your living space to better raise your energy's vibration levels.

So yes, this means that both you and your things have energy. Of course this is scientifically proven, but we often forget E=MC² basically means all things are made of energy. There have been tests that prove that physically holding something of a negative energy (ex. harsh music) will weaken the nervous system. And when touching something of a more positive energy, your nervous system strengthens. It is for this reason that feng shui is practiced.

Since we all are made of energy, everything in your living quarters is made of some type of energy, be it negative or positive. Feng shui works to position the items in your living quarter in a way that will reflect the positive energy in your home.

Cleaning Your Home

Those who specialize in feng shui believe that a clean house equals a clean soul. So the first thing to do is clean your home and clear out the things you no longer use. Often times we hold on to things that represent our past. While some items can be beneficial to our present (ex. heirloom china), much of it is being held onto for sentimental reasons, which can add to clutter and a stuffy energy in the home. This is especially true for a person who has suffered a close personal death or even divorce. A lot of the items left in the home represent a past that may not have been so pleasant, so it is important, especially during this time, to clear out the old items that bring back these memories, and essentially move on to a new "season."

There are some, I'm sure, who are now wondering how on earth to determine whether something is useless enough to throw it out. And the best advice I can give you is to focus on the word "useless." If you "use" the item "less," meaning very little or not at all, then it needs to be removed. Or if every time you pick the item up, it makes you feel sad, hurt, jealous, or any other negative emotion, then it aren't serving a positive purpose by staying in your home and should be removed.

But the most important "how to" in removing your items is, do it now! I can't think of one person who feels procrastination is a dear friend, and I'm sure you feel the same way. So the best way to begin to move toward the lighter energy you're looking for in your home is to act now.

In addition to clearing out your space and cleaning up your home, the art of feng shui asks that you open your windows as often as possible to keep fresh air circulating. Performing this act will bring life energy into your home that rejuvenates and freshens.

You're Sleeping Position

Feng Shui recognizes that sleeping is vital to inner peace and energy rejuvenation. It is for this reason that practitioners suggest that you sleep facing either north, south or east depending on what suits you the most. They revere sleep as the single most important time of the day, so sleeping correctly is essential. And for those who don't sleep correctly, they explain that they often wake up tired, sometimes more tired than they were before falling asleep.

To make sure that you are correctly facing in the direction that most suits you; you can test the theory for several nights, sleeping in different directions. Practitioners suggest using a compass to know exactly which direction you're facing. Once you find that perfect position for you then it is time to put "the art of positioning" into action by rearranging your room to suit your new need. This is why when many feng shui specialists enter your home, they end up rearranging everything. Basically, according to their principles, you just don't know what you're doing. But that's not a bad thing. It's just a learning experience - and we could all use one or two!

The Benefit

According to practitioners, the greatest benefit to be gained from feng shui is inner peace. By taking a strong interest in your life and clearing out the negative energy of your surroundings, you are inviting into your world the gift of inner peace. Most people don't understand or believe in the correlation between their surroundings and their happiness, but in practicing the cleaner, clearer, more harmoniously energized life, you can't help but feel soothed and more pleasant on the inside.

Feng shui has become increasingly popular over the years, not just among celebrities, but also in the everyday household.
