The bedroom is probably the most important place in the home. This is where the body is asleep and vulnerable to external influences for at least 7 to 8 hours. So, what are the considerations in the layout of the bedroom?
· Position of bed.
This is the central focus of the bedroom; this is where the person sleeps and everything revolves around the bed and the sleeping body.
· Incoming energy and holding energy.
The energy comes through the door. The energy is held within the walls of the room.
· Distribution of energy flow.
It is important that the energy flow in the room is smooth and even. The person in the room will benefit from it. What we do not want is static or dead areas. This can be seen as dust patches on the floor.
An even flow of energy is best seen in a regular shaped room (ie square or rectangular). Further considerations to the room to get this even energy distribution is having even surfaces - no second ceilings or beams on the ceiling. This disrupts the energy flow.
· The energy has to circulate all round the room, even beneath the bed:
a. Do not leave clutter on the floor.
b. There has to be a gap below the bed.
· En-suite bathroom.
The bathroom is a place where the energy can flow out:
a. The flushing of the WC.
b. Down the plug hole on the bath and wash basin when draining of the water.
To minimise this energy loss, keep the bathroom door shut where possible and the WC lid down.
Altering the Energy Flow
· Items with the fire energy (based on the Chinese five elements).
Two items with the fire energy are mirrors and the television. The energy in the bedroom is to be mainly Yin so that there can be restful sleep. The fire energy changes the mixture of this energy and can disrupt the quality of the sleep.
· Shar energy: Be aware of this type of energy from wall corners or from the edges of bedroom furniture.
Changing the Quality of energy
· Colour: The colour can alter the energy. Should the wall or the bed clothes be brilliant white, bright red, deep blue or black. There can be a dramatic effect. Keep the colours neutral.
· Images and symbols: The meanings of the images - a happy scene, a happy and cheerful couple. Avoid sadness or an ending (like sunset scenes).
· Compass direction: Each compass direction have different influences on the person. This is a topic in itself.
Conclusion: Feng shui is used to create a secure environment so that the person can have a good rest and be prepared for the next day.
Secondly, feng shui can provide enhancement on the various aspects of one's life with respect to love, wealth and health. However, feng shui can only assist or help. The person has to take the personal action as well.
Feng shui is a Chinese system of land management which developed with rise of Chinese civilisation, more than 40 centuries ago. It is about using the natural energies in the living environment (homes, buildings, towns and cities). This is to make the living space conducive for people to have the appropriate behaviours to attain better health, wealth and happiness.
